About the organisation

The organisation is a major government agency supporting mission critical government systems. They maintain a big IT site of considerable complexity. They are in the midst of carrying out a range of programmes and projects that will be carried out over the next 3-4 years and they need the help of an additional Solutions Architect to ensure those projects are successfully delivered.

About the role

This is an ideal role for someone with a strong software and applications architecture background. The position is based in a substantial ICT architecture team of 15 architecture professionals. All of the work is project based (as in no business-as-usual work) and you would be involved in a range of end-to-end projects at any one time.

Systems wise, they are primarily a Microsoft site.

They are carrying out a range of software applications and digital architecture initiatives, and they are actively looking to hear from those with a strong design background in any of those areas.

IN ADDITION, they are keen to talk to those who have a good knowledge of Cloud systems architecture, and strong skills in either AWS or Azure.

You will be reporting to the Manager of Architecture. He is a thoroughly nice, smart, supportive and enthusiastic person.

You will have the chance to work alongside other highly experienced professionals, whilst at the same time managing your own suite of architecture work.

In terms of the nature of the work, you will be involved with the initial high level design, then producing detailed designs and then ultimately working with the technical vendors to ensure successful implementation and integration with existing systems.

What they are looking for in your CV:

  • A background of having worked in systems design for a large ICT architecture site
  • Experience of implementing off-the-shelf products, rather than designing brand new systems from scratch
  • An understanding of digital systems design and architecture OR a background in Cloud based architecture including Azure or AWS
  • A demonstrated ability to work successfully with complex design and implementation detail
  • A self-managing style whilst still maintaining a cooperative and positive attitude
  • Ideally, a background in using Agile as this is the methodology they work with.

If you like the idea of:

  • Being responsible for a suite of architecture projects that offers you lots of opportunity for self-management within a positive, collaborative environment
  • Being involved in a major transformation programme
  • Making full use of your wide range of architecture knowledge and technical expertise, and
  • Making a real contribution to society via your work for a major government agency

then you can't do better than this!
