QA Manager

Author-it is the leading provider of on-premise and cloud-based products for authoring technical publications and pharmaceutical information. Their software is a component authoring solution, enabling enterprises to create content components, that are assembled into documents and reused across the organization. Component authoring reduces costs and Author-it is venture funded, and they have a number of opportunities after restructuring to grow the engineering team in New Zealand, with product planning and sales and marketing in international markets.

What you'll do

The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for architecting and executing test plans, processes and standards for their applications. You must be able to work with their customers and engineers in defining requirements to ensure that each initiative will meet the agreed upon requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage, mentor and lead a team of 3+ manual testers and automation test engineers.
  • Lead testing activities for the QA team
  • Implement and improve processes and standards in all aspects of testing throughout the engineering team
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to members inside and outside of immediate team
  • Ensure the quality of software and adherence to user stories before release to customer
  • Define the test approach and scope for assigned projects
  • Develop and maintain accurate and thorough test plans and test cases
  • Perform testing of software releases utilizing all methods of test execution
  • Capture relevant metrics documenting results of test effort and product stability
  • Analyze user stories and validate their testability
  • Log accurate defect reports, impact analysis and perform retest of defects as required

    Skills & Requirements

    What you bring

    • 5+ years experience in a test lead/management role in a SAAS environment
    • Experience growing and coaching people to reach unfulfilled potential. Setting and supporting goals along with performance management are essential.
    • Experience with QA methodology and tools
    • Experience gathering and analyzing data to use in decision making process along with risk evaluation and other customer & product oriented trade-offs
    • Experience guiding the creation of detailed, customer focused test cases to exercise user level features and end to end product experience
    • Experience defining automation strategy and influence planning to achieve automation growth
    • Experience troubleshooting complex systems and root causing customer facing software issues
    • Experience working closely with development and business teams to communicate problem impacts and to understand business requirements
