OneStaff are New Zealand's leading industrial recruitment agency. We are currently seeking a Packing and Dispatch Machine Operator for our client's busy Palmerston North based plant nursery.

The main task for this role will be running the automated bulb packing machine, this requires a high level of diligence due to the high volume of bulbs that run through the machine. Plant bulbs can look exactly the same, however they produce vastly different flowers, so you will need to be vigilant to run the correct batch as per requirements. You will learn all the functions of each setting across each machine which work together to create the finished product. Training and instruction is given to support you as you learn how to master this machine.

You will learn how to perform maintenance on the bulb packing machine to keep it in good working order and keep the area in and around the packing machine clean and tidy, free from the general mess that occurs as a result of running this machine. This role is physically demanding so the successful candidate will need to be capable repetitive lifting.

The role will include assisting with dispatch at the end of each day. You may often be called upon toward the end of the day to help with wrapping completed orders with stretch wrap ready for dispatch. You will also be required to unload imported shipping containers and check off products inside to ensure the packing slip and product arrived matches up. You will be required to become MPI accredited for Bio Security purposes.

This is a team leader role so it is an expectation that you will lead from the front and set daily tasks for other team members. You will be responsible for a small team of 4 employee's, it is essential you ensure the smooth running of this department and the welfare of each team member. You will need to be a clear communicator and willing to go the extra mile to get the role completed.

The position will be Monday to Friday, 7am- 5pm. These hours are flexible and you may be required to work additional hours during peak periods.

We are looking for someone to start in the position in a full time/temporary aspect with the intention to become a permanent employee based on performance.

Suitable candidates will have the following:

  • Current OSH forklift licence (if you don't have a licence, experience is essential and a licence would need to be gained shortly after commencing employment)
  • Experience within a horticulture environment
  • Be physically fit (lifting up to 25kgs regularly)
  • Be flexible within a varied role
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Clean criminal record, some driving charges are ok
  • Great work ethic
  • Be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Supply 2 recent work related references
