Operations Manager

Author-it is the leading provider of on-premise and cloud-based products for authoring technical publications and pharmaceutical information. Their software is a component authoring solution, enabling enterprises to create content components, that are assembled into documents and reused across the organization. Component authoring reduces costs and improves quality and compliance. Their customer base is 95% international and includes enterprises like Samsung, John Deere and Eli Lilly. Author-it is venture funded, and they have a number of opportunities after restructuring to grow the engineering team in New Zealand, with product planning and sales and marketing in international markets.

They are currently looking for an Operations Manager, based in Palmerston North to manage the operations team, production platform, security and the technology infrastructure. This is a senior position with direct reports, and reports to the CTO.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the production platforms for Author-it's AWS-based cloud products, ensuring 99.9% availability, security and scalability
  • Manage the internal infrastructure, processes and internal tools
  • Fault investigations, Issue tracking and resolution, provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 support
  • Manage a team of two operations and development engineers
  • Work with engineering and product planning teams, providing advice and recommendations to ensure company is building scalable, enterprise ready solutions
  • Oversee and participate in rostered out-of-hours oncall support
  • Manage hiring, budgeting, performance, career development for the operations team
  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally, work odd hours, and be very available
  • Act as initial point of contact for technical questions, presales assistance, provide customer, partner and field support.

    Skills & Requirements:

    • Operations experience with both cloud-based SaaS products and on-premise enterprise software
    • Experience with AWS cloud solutions, including sizing, architecture, VPCs and multi-tenet environments
    • Familiarity with website development, deployment and operations processes in scalable production environments
    • BS/BA in relevant field. MBA or post-graduate qualification preferred
