Job description

The Laser Operator is responsible for the daily setup and operation of laser and / or plasma cutting machines. You will also assist other operators with any of their daily duties and help with most operational issues that could arise.

What the role involves:

  • Perform daily machine start up and shutdown procedures on laser & / or plasma cutting equipment.
  • Load and unload machines using gantry cranes & / or manually.
  • Maintain daily maintenance / service records and report equipment deficiencies.
  • Diagnosing faults and performing operational maintenance of machines
  • Ensure production schedule follow through as allocated by the scheduler.
  • Checking Cut metal parts as to their accuracy requirements & cutting tolerances
  • Assist in loading and unloading team members' machines when production requires additional manpower to maintain throughput.
  • Facilitate work-order paper flow in accordance with company quality standards.
  • Help with training of new employees on machine functions and workshop processes.
  • Check parts on other cutting machines as per company standards.
  • Run multiple machines simultaneously, if required.

    To be considered you will have the following:

    • Three or more years' proven experience operating laser and / or plasma cutting machines.
    • Working experience on laser & / or Kinetic plasma cutting machines is highly preferred.
    • Drawing and reading comprehension skills.
    • Ability to inspect flat laser/plasma cut parts.
    • Ability to read drawings is preferred and some understanding of drawing notations.
    • Possess knowledge of and understanding metal grades.
    • Working knowledge of cutting machine programming.
    • Capable of altering or writing simple programs on the machine control console.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Self-sufficient in all areas of responsibility.
    • Ability to work well as a team member.
    • Pass a pre employment drug screen

      Hours - there are two shifts to choose from:

      • Night shift - Monday to Thursday 10 hours shifts 15pm - 2.45am OR
      • Weekend shift - Friday to Sunday 12 hour shifts 6am - 6pm
