TELECOMMUNICATION TECHNICIAN

Northland

The Telecommunication Technician coordinates fiber installation services for all users within the city and demonstrates a thorough understanding of the capabilities and features of fiber optic cabling , switches, and equipment purchase. This position will be working in a team environment on a large scale project and will have minimum supervision. Ideal candidates will have reliable transportation or, if a vehicle is provided by the company, the employee will take due care of the vehicle and have a responsible attitude towards its use.

Key Duties required:

  • Design, Implementation Build and Connection of the National Ultrafast Broadband Network
  • Perform cable build, laying and jointing of Telecommunications, Data & Voice Category 5 & 6 structured cabling, Hybrid network cable
  • Fiber cabling and Fusion splicing in commercial and domestic properties
  • Duct laying & working around other underground services
  • Undertake Installation, termination and testing of fibre optics throughout the underground and surface networks into small and large commercial and domestic premises and other network sites on behalf of Retail Service Provider (internet providers) and LFC's (Local Fibre companies)
  • Examining drawings and specifications and work areas to determine positions and connectivity for equipment to be installed.
  • Configuration of modems, wireless modems, routers, computers and other devices for customers
  • Installation and Connectivity LAN network and implementation and optimization of network infrastructure.
  • Network configuration including WAN and Wireless networks
  • Ensure compatibility of all devices and configure network resources accordingly
  • Power meter (JDSU) testing using power metre and Probe
  • Ensure availability of test equipment like OTDR and Power meters for carrying out optical tests where necessary.
  • Installation, Programing and Configuration of SLID and ATA on the Optical Network Terminal (ONT).
  • Underground Hauling & open trenching where required to lay the fibre cable
  • Multi Dwelling buildings cabling
  • thrusting and underground cabling for residential customers, consenting & open trench work
  • Pole climbing
  • Trenching & thrusting
  • Surveying
  • Inventory control and stock takes
  • Adhering to financial targets.
  • Provide customer service quality standards
  • Presentation as an ambassador of the company
  • Generate Daily, weekly and monthly jobs and KPIs reporting to your department manager
  • Quality assurance / taking photos for all jobs
  • Carry out daily general administration & documentation duties related to the tasks above
  • Continues education
  • Provide training for other members of the team
  • Place equipment
  • Ensure that departmental procedures are followed
  • Maintain Health and safety standards at all times
  • Maintain Customer and work quality standards

    A full class 1 NZ Drivers Licence is required.
