Job description

Our well known client is one of NZ largest construction firms who have been in the industry for nearly 50 years.

They are looking for qualified Carpenters to work within their commercial field. Your job will entail working in diverse settings to produce steady and functional infrastructure and products.

You will be an individual with great hand dexterity and an eye for detail. The ideal candidate will also have good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials. Working with little supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential.

Duties for this role would include but not limited to:

  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
  • Cut, shape and smooth lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements
  • Build window frames, doors, staircases and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items
  • Lay out flooring's, roofing's or drywall's ensuring they are levelled and compatible
  • Carve and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves and other items and install them where designated
  • Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance
  • Build scaffolding and other construction structures

    To be a successful candidate for this role you will need the following:

    • Proven hands on experience as a commercial carpenter
    • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
    • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
    • Ability to read technical documents and drawings
    • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
    • Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships
    • A strong work ethic and reliability is essential
    • Good physical condition and endurance
    • Reliable transport to and from work
    • Two relevant work references
    • Pass a pre-employment drug test

      What we can offer you:

      • Pay range between $30 - $37/Hour
      • Varied working environment
      • Overtime - Usual working hours would be 7am - 5pm but willing to work longer hours or Saturdays if required.
